Introduction to Bolt

A Bolt is a data pipeline consisting of a series of actions - Integration, Transformation, and Destination. At Boltic, the process of integrating data source, creating a dataset, transforming it, and then loading it into a destination defines as a Bolt.

Create a New Bolt

  • To build a new bolt, click the New Bolt button on the Bolt listing page

  • Give a meaningful name to your Bolt

Integration

Add Integration

Adding an Integration is the first step of all the activities that you will do to create a bolt.

  • Click the Add Integration to add a new Integration

  • Give a meaningful name to the Integration

  • If you have already added an Integration from the Integration listing page, you can click the Select Integration to select your existing Integration

Create Dataset

You can slice a piece of a dataset from the Integration using query or visual modes.

  • Select Table for which you want to write a query

  • Add Filters

  • Give a meaningful name to your dataset

  • Click Continue and then Test & Save

Select Existing Dataset

  • Click the Select Dataset dropdown to select an existing dataset

  • Click Continue and then Test & Save

Transformation

Using Boltic's Transformation, you can change the dataset's structure, format, or value. Each transformation type has a unique set of options that you can configure.

  • Give a meaningful name to the Transformation

  • Select a Transformation Type you want to perform the created dataset

  • Click + to add a new transformation step in a bolt

  • Define Transformation and save it

  • Click Add New to add multiple transformations in the Transformation that work as a group itself.

  • Click Save & Test to save the Transformation

Destination

You might want to load your transformed data to a different location than the one initially connected to Bolt. Bolt supports destinations such as BQ, Email, and Files and imports your transformed data to your preferred Destination in a minute.

  • Click the Send your Data here to load transformed data to a preferred Destination

  • Once you select your preferred Destination, perform its configuration steps

  • Click Save

Publish Bolt

Publish a Bolt
  • Click on the upper right Publish button

  • Give a meaningful name to the Bolt, add a description, and tags to your bolt

  • Click the Save button

Manage Bolts

Congratulations! You have successfully created your first Bolt.

So, what's next? Here's we recommend:

Bolt Listing Page

Use the Bolt listing page to sort the bolts by newest and oldest first, A-Z and Z-A, filter by Status, and filter by Integration. You can also create, edit, rename or move the Bolt to trash.

Bolt Listing

The following are the core components of the Bolt Listing page -

Page ComponentDescription
New Bolt+ New Bolt button lets you create a new Bolt.
Sort byAllows you to sort the bolts by newest, oldest, A-Z, and Z-A.
Filter by Status- A bolt is considered pending if its status is inactive
- A bolt is considered finished if its status is active
Filter by IntegrationAllows you to filter the bolts by the source that initially connected to Bolt.
Filter by CreatorsAllows you to filter the bolts by the creator names.
Search BoxAllows you to search the bolts by entering the name of the bolt or name of the source or tags.
Outside Bolt

You can click the Vertical Ellipses icon to perform the following actions-

Edit BoltTo modify the created Bolt you can use the Edit Bolt option.
Clone BoltTo create an exact copy of the created Bolt you can use the Clone Bolt option.
RenameYou can rename the name of the created Bolt.
De-ActivateIf you De-Activate the Bolt it will get hidden not removed from your workspace.
Move to TrashMove to Trash option will automatically save the deleted files in the trash drive till you permanently delete them.
